Crow throws back the sake, certainly a sign that he probably needs to pace himself at this point. He dives into the food, finishes up his share of the food because he's not going to leave a crumb behind.]
Guess we should start heading home soon! We should do more outings like this! Maybe once a month! No...once a week!
[It's a good call by Crow to stop while they can still walk in a straight line (the food in their stomachs helps with that, at least). Hijikata snorts at the hedgehogboy's enthusiasm.]

[Of course he simply could take a pre-scheduled break from being a cop/knight, but apparently that's not an option in his mind. He lets his eyes wander over the table with empty plates, glasses and bottle, then waves over the server to pay. He's the older one, so it's his treat! (But should Crow absolutely insist of splitting the bill he'll relent.)]

[He feels so content and comfortable right now, he wants to rest a little in his room before his evening patrol.]
[ Crow teases the officer. But seriously, he's never seen someone so married to their job! Sometimes you've got to live a little! Though it's for that reason, he appreciates Hijikata taking some time away from his patrolling to hang out with him.
He sees the samurai waving down the server. Normally in this situation, he would accept the Japanese custom and allow the eldest one of the group to pay. Rom, his drummer, usually insisted on the same thing whenever the band would go out to eat. Though since it's a somewhat special occasion, Crow will insist on splitting the bill!
Once they finish paying, Crow stands up and stretches his arms over his head. He feels pretty good after a few drinks and food, but also very tired. He'll probably hit his pillow as soon as he gets back!]
Yeah, I'm heading back, too! Of course, I have to make sure you get to your room okay!
[ And even after he says that it's the redhead that stumbles a little bit! You didn't see that!]
[Hijikata outright laughs at that. Sorry, Crow, he's tipsy!]
What do I look like, a little noblelady? Besides you can't even walk straight yourself anymore!
[He hooks one of his arms around Crow's, though, to steady him. They can probably both use the counterweight; the lantern-lit evening street does look a little double-layered...]
I'll see about some off-time. Okay? If things are quit we can meet up spontaneously sometimes, too. It's not like I've got to report to anyone.
[And yet he's got to be on duty every day?! Talk about being a worker ant...]

After sitting down so long and having to make the trek back to the inn, he can feel his balance is a bit off. So he doesn't protest as Hijikata hooks his arm around his, he doesn't need to embarrass himself anymore tonight.
They probably should've sobered up before leaving. Crow makes a mental note to drink some water, before passing out. He grins widely, happy to hear that Hijikata will try to take some time off.]
[He laughs again, a low chuckle. Crow really is so passionate...]

[He means it! Regardless, he may end up forgetting as he gets swept up in incidents and investigations. But at least they managed to properly celebrate their middle birthday!]
