[If Hijikata knew that..!! He'd fit right in with the band on a dinner night, cattle or not (though he might suspect Yaiba of being an S, purely because both of the chili-loving Okita siblings are)!]
Doesn't it?
[He's obviously happy with just his mayonnaise. For a moment he simply focuses on eating and drinking. He should go out with Crow more often, really.. on his own he'll still visit restaurants for proper sit-down meals, but food just tastes better in good company!]
I'm glad these multiverse hub worlds always tend to have cuisine from all over the place. Don't get me wrong, I'm not picky, but there's just nothing like a bowl of tempura or ramen or udon or simply rice!
[Crow thinks the best part about being in a band is going out to eat together. Good company definitely makes food taste better! He would definitely be up for another outing with Hijikata down the line!
At the remark, he has to agree. He's grateful they have the cuisine from back home, but he's been enjoying some of the western style meat dishes too. Meat pies are his new favorite thing.]
Oh yeah, you've been to another world besides this one, right? It seems like there's a lot of people here who were taken from their homes and ended up in a weird place before Camelot.
[ He wonders if that makes things easier to cope with in Avalon or was it even more infuriating that they're no closer to getting home?]
But yes, tempura, ramen, curry or onigiri, too! I'm glad that there are options and they taste pretty good too! I'm sure it could be a hit or miss!
[Hijikata would agree that meat pies are fantastic - small yet dense and filling, and ideal to eat on the go, almost like onigiri (just greasier)! He nods along to all the foods Crow lists, glad to have had their current tempura come out so tasty. Nonetheless his thoughts also drift back to Prismatica. It's been over half a year already since he last saw visited it...]
Avalon's a good world, on the whole. Sure, there are jackasses everywhere, but we've got everything we need, there's no war going on, no toxic environment or world-destroying monsters... I've heard some real horror stories.
[Things could be worse? Crow had considered that, but he's someone who has never really faced true atrocities, so he can't even fathom it. War, world-destroying monsters, or oppressive governments? Well, shit, it could be worse! Hearing from Hijikata that Avalon is a good world makes him really appreciative of being here.]
Yeah? I think we need to drink to that!
[ Time to refill their cups again. He raises his cup for a toast!]
[He's really starting to feel the buzz now... alas, if only his fellow knights wanted a community as much as him, but so far hasn't gotten to sit at the round table with anyone. Perhaps one day he'll find an equally enthusiastic fellow knight or be able to take a squire.]
[Well hopefully Crow can be that fellow enthusiastic knight for Hijikata to celebrate with! Once he completes a few more quests, they can create their own round table!
Crow throws back the sake, certainly a sign that he probably needs to pace himself at this point. He dives into the food, finishes up his share of the food because he's not going to leave a crumb behind.]
Guess we should start heading home soon! We should do more outings like this! Maybe once a month! No...once a week!
[It's a good call by Crow to stop while they can still walk in a straight line (the food in their stomachs helps with that, at least). Hijikata snorts at the hedgehogboy's enthusiasm.]
Let's see how it goes. You know how it is, crime doesn't sleep!
[Of course he simply could take a pre-scheduled break from being a cop/knight, but apparently that's not an option in his mind. He lets his eyes wander over the table with empty plates, glasses and bottle, then waves over the server to pay. He's the older one, so it's his treat! (But should Crow absolutely insist of splitting the bill he'll relent.)]
Are you going back to the hotel too?
[He feels so content and comfortable right now, he wants to rest a little in his room before his evening patrol.]
[ Crow teases the officer. But seriously, he's never seen someone so married to their job! Sometimes you've got to live a little! Though it's for that reason, he appreciates Hijikata taking some time away from his patrolling to hang out with him.
He sees the samurai waving down the server. Normally in this situation, he would accept the Japanese custom and allow the eldest one of the group to pay. Rom, his drummer, usually insisted on the same thing whenever the band would go out to eat. Though since it's a somewhat special occasion, Crow will insist on splitting the bill!
Once they finish paying, Crow stands up and stretches his arms over his head. He feels pretty good after a few drinks and food, but also very tired. He'll probably hit his pillow as soon as he gets back!]
Yeah, I'm heading back, too! Of course, I have to make sure you get to your room okay!
[ And even after he says that it's the redhead that stumbles a little bit! You didn't see that!]
[Hijikata outright laughs at that. Sorry, Crow, he's tipsy!]
What do I look like, a little noblelady? Besides you can't even walk straight yourself anymore!
[He hooks one of his arms around Crow's, though, to steady him. They can probably both use the counterweight; the lantern-lit evening street does look a little double-layered...]
I'll see about some off-time. Okay? If things are quit we can meet up spontaneously sometimes, too. It's not like I've got to report to anyone.
[And yet he's got to be on duty every day?! Talk about being a worker ant...]
Shaddup! There's nothing wrong with worrying about a friend!
[Even as Hijikata points out his own drunken state, Crow doesn't seem to be offended about it. After sitting down so long and having to make the trek back to the inn, he can feel his balance is a bit off. So he doesn't protest as Hijikata hooks his arm around his, he doesn't need to embarrass himself anymore tonight.
They probably should've sobered up before leaving. Crow makes a mental note to drink some water, before passing out. He grins widely, happy to hear that Hijikata will try to take some time off.]
[He laughs again, a low chuckle. Crow really is so passionate...]
Will do.
[He means it! Regardless, he may end up forgetting as he gets swept up in incidents and investigations. But at least they managed to properly celebrate their middle birthday!]
Continued from above!
